Tierney: We Stopped Man City Playing

LCFC Women full-back Sam Tierney says the Foxes can take a lot from the nature of their performance in Sunday's 2-1 Women's FA Cup Quarter-Final defeat by Manchester City.

Despite coming up against a side equipped with an array of England internationals, Leicester were resolute throughout and were ultimately unlucky not to take the tie into extra-time.

A penalty from Chloe Kelly and Georgia Stanway's inventive chip put the Citizens in front, but the Foxes hit back through Charlie Devlin's spot-kick and pushed their illustrious visitors all the way.

Reflecting on the result at full-time at Farley Way Stadium, Tierney, a new signing from Sheffield United, told LCFC TV: "It was a good shift from the girls. I think we've come off very, very positive.

"But we're disappointed and to come off Man City, one of the best teams arguably in the world, it's a testament to us and we would have liked to get more out of the game.

Tierney Finds Many Positives In Man City Reverse

Full-back Sam Tierney speaks to LCFC TV following a narrow 2-1 loss to Manchester City for LCFC Women in the FA Cup Quarter-Finals.

"We stopped them playing, which was our first thing to do. We grew into the game, but if you give a team like that half a chance, they're going to take it, so unfortunately, it didn't go our way."

Despite being two goals down at the break, LCFC Women retained hope that they could compete with Man City in the second period - and they proceeded to do just that in Quorn.

"We walked into the changing room at half-time and there was a buzz in the room and we knew that we were still in it," Tierney continued.

"It was a bit of a mad 10 minutes, really, where we got a bit little sloppy... two sloppy goals which, when we reflect, we'll probably be disappointed about.

"We knew we were still in it, but we knew the first 15 minutes after half-time is crucial. We went into it making sure we didn't concede in that and and then tried to build from there."

Man City ultimately exhibited their quality to see out the tie and book their place in the semi-finals, but Tierney says the Foxes will now look to build on the positives of their performance on Sunday.

"Credit to City, they've got a very good set-up there and they can bring in players like that," she added. "But for us, we knew as the underdogs, you don't have anything to lose.

"We're still a new team, still forming. But today it was a completely different performance, and I think we definitely need to take that into the next one now.

"We kept attacking, we tried to take our moments, but we try to stay calm, that's the most important thing."
