Following a 3-0 victory over Zorya Luhansk on matchday one, Leicester are top of Group G, alongside SC Braga, who also picked up a win by the same scoreline, against City's next opponents.

Despite their difficult start to the group, Schmeichel is adamant AEK will pose a serious threat and the Foxes must be wary of that when they visit Athens Olympic Stadium on Thursday night (5:55pm kick-off).

"We're ready and we’re really looking forward to it," the shot-stopper commented when speaking to the national and international media in Wednesday's pre-match virtual press conference in Athens.

“I think there’s some good teams in the group, when we played against Luhansk, they created some good chances. Every team that is in the group stages is a good team and we’ve obviously analysed AEK and we know what to expect."

The Denmark international also believes the team are fully prepared for what will be their first away game in Europe in over three years, despite injuries continuing to rule out the likes of Wilfred Ndidi, Çağlar Söyüncü and Ricardo Pereira.

Schmeichel said: “You enter every competition wanting to go as far as you can and ultimately to win. For us, the main goal right now is to get out of the group stages and we'll see where it takes us.

"In terms of the squad, I have every confidence in the squad, I think we have a really good, strong squad. Obviously we have a few injuries at the moment, but they are on their way back, so as soon as we get everyone fit, we've got a great chance."

He has every faith in the team as they continue to battle on two fronts, with this week's European fixture swiftly followed by a return to Premier League action, against Leeds United on Monday evening (8pm kick-off).

“I think the squad we have right now is a top-class Premier League squad," Schmeichel added. "What we achieved back in the 2015/16 season was obviously very unique and obviously very hard to replicate.

"When you have experiences like that, they are amazing, but the flip side of that is you want more, you want to try them again, you want to keep doing it.

"You learn to believe and you never know, but we're under no illusions of how tough and competitive the Premier League is and obviously the Europa League as well.

"But we go in with confidence and we go with hope and you never know where that takes you."
