Morgan Points To Winning Mentality

Jonathan Morgan says LCFC Women will call on their desire for victory when they contest their Vitality Women's FA Cup Fourth Round tie with Liverpool at Farley Way Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

After clinching the FA Women’s Championship title with two games to spare last weekend with a 2-0 success over London City Lionesses, the Foxes return to Quorn, this time for a cup tie.

They have already beaten the Merseyside outfit twice in the league this season, emerging as 2-1 victors on both occasions, and are currently on an incredible 12-game winning run in their division.

While Morgan is keen to progress to the fifth round, he also cited individual goals as something that LCFC Women would like to achieve during their first season as a professional outfit.

“We’ve got a bunch of girls who just always want to win,” he explained. “As a set-up, we highly value the term: ‘Winning’, and having that winning mentality.

“From our point of view, there are a few carrots dangled out in front of the girls. We want Tash Flint to get top goalscorer, we want Kirstie Levell to hopefully, potentially get the Golden Glove, although that is obviously a highly-competitive competition between herself, Sheffield United and Durham.

“Most importantly, we want to make it 14 wins on the bounce and keep this unbeaten record going within the Championship.

“There are a few things that we’ve put out there that have kept them switched on and focused. Finally, it’s just about the girls having their own pride. We want to do it for each other.”

Since we’ve come back in, we just want to focus on Liverpool now and get to the next round of the FA Cup to hopefully test ourselves against WSL opposition now to see what we’re like for next season.

Naturally thrilled to lift the title despite a series of strong rivals including Sunday’s opponents, Liverpool, Morgan believes the prospect of cup fixture will allow City to focus on a different target, before turning their attentions back to the league.

“We’re getting back to a bit of normality,” he explained in his pre-match press conference. “We really enjoyed the fact that we won the league and we’re champions, and after the game on Sunday against London City Lionesses, we made sure we wanted to savour the moment. The girls have done that.

“Since we’ve come back in, we just want to focus on Liverpool now and get to the next round of the FA Cup to hopefully test ourselves against WSL opposition now to see what we’re like for next season.”
