Leicester City in the Community are supporting Gordon Miller and Ride for Freedom to help raise awareness of modern-day slavery, specifically child trafficking in sport.

Gordon Miller, Ride for Freedom team leader and Guinness World Record holder for the largest GPS drawing by a bicycle, is cycling around all 20 Premier League grounds and finishing at Wembley Stadium on the day of the Euro 2020 Final.

LCFC Women’s Club Captain, Holly Morgan, and former Foxes defender, Steve Walsh, were in attendance upon his arrival to Filbert Way on Monday 28 June and gained an insight into the troubling reality of slavery in the modern age.

Discussing the Premier League and Euro 2020 Cycling Tour, Gordon explains why he is taking on the challenge.

“As these years have passed and I’ve worked more and more with people, it’s become more of a personal crusade,” he commented.

Steve Walsh and Holly Morgan were on hand to greet Gordon Miller on the latest leg of his cycling journey.

“I think it’s a real issue that needs a light shining on it and if I can use my passion for cycling to raise awareness of this issue, it’s something I want to do and something I enjoy doing as well.

“When I reached out to all the clubs, Leicester City was one of the first ones who responded to us; this is a club that lives its values and that was great to see and come here today.”

More than 40 million women, children and men worldwide are in some form of slavery, according to the Global Slavery Index.

Discussing the issue with Gordon, Morgan admitted to an eye-opening experience and why she is supporting the Cycling Tour.

“My understanding wasn’t really as far-reaching as what I would’ve hoped,” said Holly. “When I heard about this it was something that I wanted to support.

“But also, for me it was kind of an education tool to learn more about it and to be more understanding as to what is happening right now.

The fact that Leicester City in the Community are supporting Ride for Freedom, it’s essential to help raise awareness to the community for what is going on at the moment.

“The fact that Leicester City in the Community are supporting Ride for Freedom, it’s essential to help raise awareness to the community for what is going on at the moment.”

During Gordon’s cycle tour, Leicester City in the Community are supporting the World Record holder by completing their own race to Wembley.

Health and Wellbeing Coordinator, Sarah Jones, discusses how Leicester City in the Community are raising awareness.

“We’ve got two staff teams aiming to travel the distance from King Power Stadium to Wembley, and the first team to get to that 100 miles is the winner,” Jones explained.

“Secondly, we’re going to work with ten of our different participant groups and each group’s aim is to complete 10 miles each, supporting and working with each other to do that leg from Wembley to King Power Stadium.”

After King Power Stadium, Gordon will travel up to Elland Road in Leeds, and then make his way to Newcastle, before arriving at Wembley on July 11 ahead of the Euro 2020 Final.
