Tielemans In Honest West Ham Assessment

West Ham United's opener and losing numerical parity on the field of play prevented Leicester City from building on an assured start at London Stadium on Monday evening, says midfielder Youri Tielemans.

The 10-man Foxes fell to a 4-1 reverse in the capital as Pablo Fornals' strike was added to by Saïd Benrahma after the interval and, while Tielemans got one back for the visitors, a brace from Michail Antonio ultimately secured all three points for the east London hosts.

Speaking to LCFC TV at full-time, the Belgian reflected on a series of unfortunate events, including Ayoze Pérez's 40th-minute dismissal, but openly discussed areas where City can improve following their maiden defeat of the 2021/22 campaign.

"It was [hard] towards the end, but at the start as well," City's No.8 said. "West Ham is a good team, they have good players, and they play good football.

Tielemans: Work Hard Now To Respond

Youri Tielemans speaks to LCFC TV following the Foxes' 4-1 defeat by West Ham United in the Premier League.

"From the start, we knew it was going to be difficult against this team and then, when you’re down to 10 men, you need to try and keep the lines tight, keep working together and, unfortunately, they scored quite early, so it made it really difficult for us."

While Leicester were already a goal down by the time they were reduced to 10 men, Tielemans believes they were laying the groundworks for a comeback in the capital, but now all focus shifts to tackling Norwich City at Carrow Road on Saturday (3pm BST kick-off).

"I think we were building into the game," he added. "Unfortunately, we went down to 10 men, but they scored before that and it’s really unfortunate. We tried to stay patient and move the ball, but at times, it could have gone a bit quicker, but let’s go into the next game and hopefully we can win.

"We all made mistakes in this game. We’ve all lost the ball a bit unfortunately, there were some technical errors which cost us tonight, but we need to keep the lines tight and move onto Saturday.

"We try to keep our heads up. It’s only the second game and we need to work hard towards Saturday’s game, and we’ll see what happens."
