The visit of Foxes defenders Ashleigh Plumptre and Sophie Howard helped celebrate a successful partnership between Leicester City in the Community and LCFC Women.

Throughout the summer holidays, Leicester City in the Community ran their Football Camps - for a week at Wreake Valley Academy, followed by a five-week camp at Belvoir Drive.

More than 1,000 children took advantage of the rare opportunity to play football at the same location as professional footballers over the course of the summer.

Discussing the Belvoir Drive camp, Scotland international Howard commented: “For us, it has been a great experience to interact with the children and to get out here and get to know the community.

The LCFC Women pair took time out from training to engagement with local children in the Leicester community.

“Everyone always says it is nice for children to meet players, but you can’t forget that it is nice for us to meet the children as well.

“It is a great thing to put summer football camps on for children, it gives them a purpose to wake up in the morning.”

The defensive pair took part in a series of fun football drills, including crossbar challenge and back of the net, while also answering questions from the 66 participants.

Howard added the importance of encouraging girls to play football and praised Leicester City in the Community for the inclusion of girl-only camps.

There are only positives – it is massive step for Leicester, Leicester City in the Community and girls football in general.

“I wish when I was younger, I had these girl-only Football Camps,” she continued. “The location is great as they can train where we train. We have seen some of them peek over and watch our training.
