We Were Competitive, Says Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers believes Leicester City could have retained possession more effectively in Saturday's 1-0 loss to Manchester City.

- Foxes manager Brendan Rodgers saw many things to be pleased with in the performance
- However, the former Liverpool and Celtic manager pointed to areas where they can improve

Bernardo Silva's 62nd-minute strike was the difference at King Power Stadium in the Premier League, settling a contest which included many opportunities for both sides. Rodgers, speaking afterwards, was pleased with many aspects of the performance and felt his side created enough for at least a point.

A Harvey Barnes header grazed the crossbar before Jamie Vardy had a goal disallowed for offside, but Pep Guardiola's seasoned visitors did just enough to leave the East Midlands with the points.

"I thought the team gave everything into the game," the Northern Irishman told LCFC TV. "You know you’re going to have to work and you’re going to have to run when you’re against Manchester City, but I felt we deserved something from it. We had really good pressure at times.

With a bit of the luck they got for the goal, we might have taken something from the game.

"You have to soak up pressure and dig in as well, but from the first whistle to the very end, we were in it against the champions. We were very, very competitive, so I’m just disappointed we couldn’t take something from it because we had enough chances.

"With a bit of the luck they got for the goal, we might have taken something from the game."

Choosing the right pass - at the right moment - is one area where Rodgers says Leicester could have been better, but the 48-year-old was keen to stress the fact that he was impressed by much of what his Foxes outfit did on Filbert Way against the champions.

"Against them, you have to build the game up and feel that little bit of pressure and I felt we did that," he added. "Once we played through that, it gave us great opportunities. I felt in the first half we probably rushed it a little bit.

"Once we broke through their pressure, we were looking for Jamie too early and then we ended up conceding possession and we’re defending. If we could have held the ball for longer periods at times... when we did do that, I thought we looked a really good team."
