We Brought Character & Quality, Says Castagne

The Belgium international was mightily impressive in his left wing-back role, as he helped the Foxes to a memorable win at King Power Stadium.

Mason Greenwood’s long-range strike was cancelled out by Youri Tielemans’ superb attempt, before Çağlar Söyüncü made it 2-1.

Although Marcus Rashford levelled matters in the final 10 minutes, Jamie Vardy replied immediately with his 125th Premier League goal before Patson Daka added gloss to the scoreline in injury time.

Castagne told LCFC TV: “It was a great game, I think we played very well. We played from the back and we showed our quality. Today was the first game of the season where we actually tried to play from the back and play as well as we did today – it’s a big win.

Castagne: A Big Win

Timothy Castagne speaks to LCFC TV after Leicester City beat Manchester United 4-2.

“Our only mistake today was giving them their second goal because it could have finished 2-2 and we have regrets, and it came also from a long ball from nowhere. We showed character. The last few weeks, I’ve said character is not enough. Today, it was, because we brought quality as well and that’s why it worked today.

“That’s why we were so upset before, because we know we can do that. Today, we showed against one of the best teams in the Premier League that we can be better than them. We showed today that we dominated, we kept the ball, had good actions, and we have to keep on playing like that.”

Castagne’s international team-mate, Tielemans, produced a brilliant goal, spotting David De Gea off his line and curling an attempt into the top corner.

“It was an amazing goal,” reflected Castagne. “You’ll have to ask him if he tried to shoot or to cross, but we’ll give him that one! We’ll say it was on purpose!

“Not only the goal, he had a great game. They controlled the midfield amazingly with Bouba [Soumaré], and I think it started from there today.”

The City No.27 was also pleased for Zambia striker Daka, who after having a goal ruled out against Napoli last month, finally got off the mark for the Foxes – this time in the Premier League.

“For a striker, it’s always good to score and he was very close against Napoli, and then today, when he came in, he made some good runs and some good actions, and he got what he deserved,” added Castagne.

“When you come in and you keep working like he does, you eventually get what you deserve.”
