The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Commemorated With Ceremonial Tree Planting

A Premier League Primary Stars partner school has been gifted a tree on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen to commemorate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
On behalf of Buckingham Palace, Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire presented the Leicester city-based school with a maple tree, which has been positioned proudly outside of the main school building.
In total, 69 trees will be gifted to primary schools across the country, as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy City Schools Project to mark Her Majesty’s 70 years on the throne.
The initiative aims to encourage the planting of trees to create a legacy in honour of The Queen’s reign, which will contribute to the planet and benefit future generations.
Mike Kapur, Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire, and Chair of Trustees for Leicester City in the Community discussed Alderman Richard Hallam’s place in history.
“The honour of receiving one of the prestigious celebration trees from Her Majesty for Alderman Richard Hallam Primary School will make the school part of British history for decades to come,” he explained.
“These trees, we hope, will be around for a very long time. In years to come when people look through the records to see where the official gifted trees were planted, they will see Leicester and Alderman Richard Hallam School.”
Also present at the tree planting ceremony was The Lord Mayor of Leicester, Councillor Deepak Bajaj, Leicester City legend Steve Walsh, as well as Alderman Richard Hallam pupils and Headteacher Anne-Marie Kedzior.
Speaking at the primary school, Walsh stated the significance of the celebration.
“You can see the dignitaries that are here today, and it’s such a great celebration,” he said. “The Queen’s Green Canopy initiative is a lovely thing to be involved in – it’s a wonderful thing to support and get the message about what we need to do over the coming decades.
“Globally, we need to protect the environment and planting these trees that have been gifted by The Queen is fantastic.”
As well as planting new trees, The Queen’s Green Canopy will also restore 70 ancient woodlands across the country.
The Lord Mayor of Leicester, Cllr Deepak Bajaj added: “We are hugely honoured to play a special part in the Jubilee celebrations. We share this momentous occasion with our young people in Leicester.
“This tree will be a lasting legacy, recognising Her Majesty The Queen’s devoted service to this country over the last 70 years.”
