Wins For Schmeichel & Evans In World Cup Qualifying

Kasper Schmeichel and Jonny Evans tasted victory in the European section of FIFA World Cup qualifying on Friday evening.
More on this story...

- Kasper Schmeichel helped Denmark to a 3-1 victory over Faroe Islands on Friday
- The Danes have already qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup with a 100 per cent record
- Jonny Evans also played the full 90 for Northern Ireland in a 1-0 success over Lithuania
- Denmark travel to Scotland on Monday, while Northern Ireland host Italy

Schmeichel, 35, was making his 77th appearance for the already-qualified Danes in Copenhagen as Kasper Hjulmand's men overcame Faroe Islands 3-1 at Parken Stadium. Andreas Skov Olsen, Jacob Bruun Larsen and Joakim Mæhle got the goals for the hosts to maintain their 100 per cent record.

Remarkably, with City's No.1 in goal, Denmark have conceded just once in qualifying with only one Group F fixture still to play. They head to Hampden Park to face Scotland on Monday (7:45pm kick-off). De rød-hvide are on 27 points, seven clear of the Scots, with a goal difference of +29.

Schmeichel has earned all 77 of his caps while at the Club and will be looking to add to that tally when Hjulmand's Danes compete in the World Cup in Qatar, which will be staged over 21 November and 18 December in 2022. Jannik Vestergaard, meanwhile, was an unused substitute in Copenhagen.

Also on Friday, Foxes centre-back Evans, 33, also starred for Northern Ireland – the former Manchester United man's 92nd international outing. The Green and White Army, who cannot qualify for the finals, enjoyed a 1-0 victory over Lithuania, courtesy of a Benas Šatkus own goal at Windsor Park.

City's No.6 played from start to finish in Belfast. Managed by Leicester-born Ian Baraclough, a former youth team player at the Club, Northern Ireland are third in Group C. European champions Italy lead the way, holding a slender goal difference advantage over Switzerland.

Northern Ireland conclude their qualification campaign against ex-Leicester midfielder Roberto Mancini's Italians at Windsor Park on Monday (7:45pm kick-off).
