Ewing Looking To Make An Impact

Oliver Ewing says Leicester City’s Development Squad are entering a key part of their season as they prepare to face Liverpool Under-23s on Sunday (2pm GMT kick-off).

The Foxes suffered a 4-1 defeat at home to Tottenham Hotspur Under-23s earlier this week to end a three-game unbeaten run in Premier League 2, though it could have been a different story had City finished their first half chances, Ewing believes.

Tawanda Maswanhise added his name to the scoresheet inside three minutes at LCFC Training Ground, before four goals in a 20-minute spell either side of half-time ensured it would be the visitors who claimed all three points.

Attention has quickly turned to focusing on preparing for their next encounter and the midfielder also revealed that the team have identified key areas to work on ahead of meeting with Liverpool.

“It was a really frustrating result in the end because if you look at the chances we had, we could have easily been 3-0 up in the first half,” he told LCFC.com. “So it was a really disappointing game, but I think on another day, we would have had another result.

Maswanhise Nets In Spurs Reverse

Tawanda Maswanhise scored his fifth Premier League 2 goal of the season in the Leicester City Development Squad's 4-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur Under-23s.

“The first three goals we conceded were all from set pieces so I think there were just slight errors that we need to improve on and, if we do that, we should go into Sunday in a good place.

“Everything is so fresh from the game against Spurs – we know the things we did well – and then the things we need to get better at we’ve worked on in training this week and hopefully we can just implement it into the game.

“We know what style Liverpool play, they are a high-pressing team, very good technically, they try and force the mistakes. We know exactly what type of team they are.

“We’re just going to play to our strengths and try to out-think them, out-smart them and out-work them, which I think we can definitely do with the team we’ve got.”

The Wales Under-19s international played from start to finish in Leicester’s last three games across all competitions, striking up a midfield partnership with another Academy graduate - 17-year-old Sammy Braybrooke.

I’ve been coming off the bench a few times, but hopefully over these next few weeks I’ve proved that I can start games and make a real impact, so hopefully I can continue with the form I’m in.

After getting 90 minutes under his belt, Ewing now hopes to be able to deliver impressive displays for the team during the three fixtures to come ahead of the winter break, starting with this weekend’s trip to Liverpool Academy.

The former Fulham youngster added: “Last year, me and Sammy played the majority of our games together in centre midfield and we’ve built quite a good relationship so we’ve always got that chemistry between us, so hopefully we can build on that and start to play more together in the Under-23s.

“I’ve been coming off the bench a few times, but hopefully over these next few weeks I’ve proved that I can start games and make a real impact, so hopefully I can continue with the form I’m in.

“It’s definitely about consistency. We haven’t really had too many poor performances as such, it’s just been results so these next few weeks up to Christmas, we just need to make sure we get those results in first and hopefully the performances will follow.

“The performances have been there; we’ve just been a bit unlucky with the results. We just need to work on grinding out results I think, that’s going to be our main aim.”
