Foxes’ Development Squad To Meet Chelsea In PL2

The winter break, extended by a postponement to the final fixture of the year, means that the Foxes have not been in competitive action since the impressive 3-1 victory at Leeds United on 3 December – a maiden away win in 2021/22.

A brace from Ethan Fitzhugh and Bayli Spencer-Adams’ late goal – both adding their names to the scoresheet for the first time this term – ensured Leicester moved onto 16 points at the half-way stage of the season.

And with up to two games in hand on the sides around them in the table, City will be hoping to move up from their ninth placing in Premier League 2 Division 1. Chelsea, meanwhile, have struggled to replicate their form from previous seasons and currently sit 11th with 14 points from their 14 matches.

A close encounter can be expected in the capital, following a 1-1 draw between the teams at LCFC Training Ground back in October 2020.

Coach Ben Petty spoke to the Club’s website to look ahead to this week’s return to action and the progress made by the players across the last year: “We’re ticking over, we’re not having too much time off. We’ve got a couple of difficult games in January so we’re looking to really hit the ground running when they come around.

“For us to be around the first team more, that’s where we all want to be and I think the lads are seeing that the gap is getting smaller for them. They are getting closer to where they want to get to.”
