Goodwin: I Could Not Wait To Join The Foxes

LCFC Women’s newest recruit Missy Goodwin says the ambitions of the Club were a driving factor in her decision to make the switch.

Goodwin, 18, officially arrived from Aston Villa on Friday joining the Foxes on a deal until the end of the current campaign, with the facilities on offer at King Power Stadium and Belvoir Drive an attractive proposition for the youngster.

The attacker has become the first new signing of 2022 and first since manager Lydia Bedford took charge, as Leicester target a positive second half to the Barclays FA Women's Super League campaign.

“It’s really exciting,” Goodwin told LCFC TV in her first interview since joining the Foxes. “It’s been really good to get going. It’s my third day, so it’s been quite a smooth process. It’s a great environment and the facilities speak for themselves.

Goodwin is a Fox... LCFC Women have made their first signing in the January transfer window.

“I just think it’s a club that has got great ambitions and I think the process that they have been through so far just to get into the Super League is fantastic and it’s something that I couldn’t wait to join.

“[I’ve been] very impressed. They’ve come from nothing to be something now, it’s incredible. Just watching from afar and being in it now, it shows just how great it is.”

Making her senior debut for Aston Villa in a Continental Tyres League Cup clash in November last year, following time within Birmingham City’s academy system, the versatile forward’s past involvements at club level have helped to develop her game, she believes.

The 19-year-old explained: “I’ve been with Birmingham for most of my childhood, about 10 years. Moving over to Villa, they were great experiences and made me who I am, but I’m really excited to be here now.

I just want to keep getting better, keep improving and I’m nowhere near the finished article, so hopefully this environment will really help me to improve.

“Obviously, I knew Lydia [Bedford] prior to joining the Club, which helped, but it’s all great experiences that I can hopefully bring to help the team.

“Having a few familiar faces helps, but they’ve all been so lovely, so it’s been quite a smooth process getting here.”

Goodwin is in line to potentially make her debut when the WSL resumes for the Foxes on Sunday, as they travel to meet Reading in a 2pm GMT kick-off on Sunday afternoon.

Training with the team throughout the week, the England Under-19s international now feels raring to go and after attaining a first win of the campaign over one of her former clubs, she has entered a group with great confidence.

“The training is great,” Goodwin added. “There’s great intensity, so I just can’t wait to get started [on the pitch].

“It was a great win (vs. Birmingham). The feel around the group is very positive, very high and hopefully it will continue to be like that.

“I just want to keep getting better, keep improving and I’m nowhere near the finished article, so hopefully this environment will really help me to improve.”
