'Make Seagrave A Fortress' – Petty's Brighton U23s Optimism

Coach Ben Petty hopes a return to home soil can help Leicester City's Development Squad climb the Premier League 2 Division 1 standings.

Brighton & Hove Albion Under-23s are the visitors to LCFC Training Ground on Monday evening (7pm kick-off) as the Foxes look to get back on track following a defeat at Manchester City last time out. City's youngsters are currently 11th in the Division 1 table after playing 14 games.

Three of their four league successes in 2021/22 have come in Seagrave this term and Petty is optimistic that playing in front of a home crowd in north Leicestershire can help them secure another win this time around. Monday's fixture will be shown live, for free, on LCFC TV from 6:45pm.

"Our performances at Seagrave have been good," Petty said this week. "We’ve had some tough games there but we’ve also won three of four really good games there and our hope is to make Seagrave a fortress in the coming seasons. We’re really looking forward to playing at home.

McAteer Strikes In Narrow Seagulls Defeat

Kasey McAteer was on the scoresheet as Leicester City's Development Squad fell to a late 2-1 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion Under-23s on Friday.

"We’ll obviously assess later in the week what sort of team we’ll have out, once the first team know how their injury list is looking. We’ll work with them and look to see if we can put in a strong performance on Monday night."

A host of players have been called into senior contention over recent weeks and Petty is both delighted for those individuals and eager to see how others fare when selected for the Development Squad from the Club's Under-18s outfit.

"The message from myself and the other staff is that now there’s an opportunity for some of the other players to step up and stake their claim to be the next one across the hedge," he added. 

"We’ve got Monday against Brighton, which will be a tough game and I can imagine it will be a very similar side that we put out."
