Vestergaard Speaks Inside Sunday's CITY Matchday Magazine

The Denmark international joined the Club from Southampton in the summer and has made 16 appearances so far in 2021/22. He is the latest Foxes player to feature inside CITY Matchday Magazine, Leicester City's official programme, ahead of Sunday's visit of Brighton & Hove Albion.
"I’m expecting a good game between two teams that want to take control of the game, want to be in possession and dominate the pace of the game," the 29-year-old said. "They’re a team that we’ve played twice this year in evenly-contested games. I thought we were unlucky at their place.
"We had two goals disallowed and some bad fortune there, but it was evenly contested. Later, we had the Carabao Cup game which we won on penalties having been 2-0 up. That was a game of two halves; one that we dominated and one that they dominated.
"Generally, they have been tough games against a well-coached team."
City have had to battle against dwindling availability and fixture postponements over recent months. Vestergaard, though, believes the resilience which is required to overcome those challenges can harden Leicester's resolve for future tests.
"We have had a lot of bad luck where injuries are concerned," he added. "For myself, off the back of the EUROS and then coming straight back and straight in, I struggled for a while.
"We had a couple of illnesses go around before COVID, so it’s been a challenging season for the players and medical staff, who have worked hard with the issues we’ve had. It’s not new, though. Illness and injuries are part of the game and we’ve got to deal with them.
"I think the team has done amazing in stepping up. We’ve seen players play out of position, playing with their hearts on the sleeve. It’s actually been quite amazing to be a part of; to feel that sense of togetherness and team spirit.
"As strange as it sounds, as we’re not where we want to be, we’re going to be stronger as a group when we get through this.
"It’s been up and down for me and the team throughout the season. Over the past month, I feel I’m finding my form and match fitness. I’ve got past illnesses and small injuries and feel like I’m getting to where I know I can be. On a personal level, I’ve felt at home from the first day.
"There are a lot of great guys and characters that want to work and be the best version of themselves. The facilities are amazing, but that environment puts demands on everybody. We have everything we could ever need, so there’s no excuses. I feel settled and motivated."
