The Barclays FA Women’s Super League encounter at Pirelli Stadium (2pm kick-off) sees the two Midlands clubs go head-to-head for the second time in the top-flight, following Villa’s 2-1 success in September.

Ahead of the reverse fixture in Burton, City’s manager spoke to the national press in her pre-match press conference at Belvoir Drive, providing some positive news on the injury front.

The Foxes have been able to welcome players back into the fold and step up their recoveries by being involved in full training at the team’s base, including Connie Scofield and Paige Bailey-Gayle, while Kirstie Levell has also started completing sessions following her long-term knee injury.

Forwards Jess Sigsworth and Natasha Flint, meanwhile, both returned to the squad for the first time this year against Brighton & Hove Albion, featuring for 90 and 30 minutes respectively.

We seem to be reasonable unscathed by it in the last 10 days, which is obviously excellent for our preparation for the games.

“We have nothing new at the moment,” Bedford revealed on Thursday afternoon. “We’re all in good place.”

Despite several games called off across the league since the winter break due to COVID-19 cases, Leicester have fulfilled all their scheduled fixtures so far in 2022. They will be looking to maintain the performance level that led to a home success over the Seagulls at the weekend.

The manager continued: “After the week we had leading up to the Reading game, I did feel like it (COIVD-19) was going to be something that was going to be consistent, weekly issue, same as everybody else.

Midfielder Connie Scofield is back in contact training at Belvoir Drive.

“We seem to have been reasonably unscathed by it in the last 10 days, which is obviously excellent for our preparation for the games. I don’t think our processes are any different to what other clubs are practising.

“I think it’s probably just the girls being really diligent individually in what they are doing in their own time and their conduct around the training ground, which is really helpful.

“It’s just about being in it together and I said to them right from the start, we want these games to go ahead, so let’s make sure we’re conducting ourselves the right way.”
