On a rain swept morning in Seagrave, the players filed in for breakfast, meeting up with team-mates and staff for the first time since May, ahead of heading down for a gym session inside the Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Building, which included strength and heart-rate workouts.
Then off to the indoor dome inside the King Power Centre, it was time for pre-season testing to commence, with a series of timed running drills putting the returnees through their paces.
The likes of Jamie Vardy, James Maddison, Harvey Barnes and Marc Albrighton were among those back in on day one of pre-season.
Albrighton feels ready to tackle the pre-season schedule.
The latter, one of the longest serving players at the Club having joined in 2014, is set to enter his ninth Premier League season with City and sat down to speak to LCFC TV on Monday about the eagerness to get back to it.
“I absolutely love the time away, but I think I was ready to come back in and get working again. It’s a totally different environment. Having done it so many times, I know what I need. I do the right things and make sure I am in a good place.
“From when we were younger, we’ve obviously trained to be fit and healthy and live right. Since I’ve been here, every year the standard goes up and up. There’s always that little bit of worry that as you’re getting older you may get left behind, but you look after yourself.”
The day began on the bikes in the gym at LCFC Training Ground.
After lunch, meanwhile, bright sunshine greeted the Foxes as they headed onto the training pitches, relishing the chance to be out on the grass with a football at their feet. Manager Brendan Rodgers watched on as a light afternoon session marked the first step towards gearing up for 2022/23.
With Leicester’s pre-season friendlies announced, including a trip to face OH Leuven in Belgium before returning to English soil to tackle Notts County, Preston North End and Derby County away from home, there is plenty of football to be played between now and that first competitive game against Brentford.
Welcoming Sevilla to King Power Stadium rounds off a busy schedule ahead of the new Premier League campaign commencing on Sunday 7 August.
