Rodgers: Schmeichel A 'True Icon'

Schmeichel – a Premier League and Championship champion and a winner of the FA Cup and FA Community Shield – left the Foxes on Wednesday to join French side Nice. Rodgers, who addressed the media on Friday, described the Club's former No.1 and captain as a 'colossal player' for City.
"He’s a true icon of the Club," Rodgers said, speaking at King Power Stadium. "When I came in, he was one of the figures mentioned… that senior group of players who were very strong and important to the Club. He was exactly that. On the pitch, he’s a colossal player who played 479 games.
"He’s been a part of great success here over 10-11 years. He’s a real real good guy off the field and I don’t say that lightly. His passion, determination... living with the name 'Schmeichel' was always going to be hard for any player. He made a name for himself with how good he was."

Rodgers says he will miss Schmeichel's presence around the Club but wished him well for the new chapter in his life.
"To give the service he had here was immense," the Northern Irishman added. "I will miss him, the players will miss him. He’s gone for a new adventure with his family now. It’s a three-year deal, a new project and I’m sure he’ll really enjoy the experience."
