Rodgers Delivers Pre-Villa Fitness Update

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers says Jamie Vardy's fitness will be assessed before Saturday's trip to Aston Villa.

- Leicester City go to Villa Park on Saturday (3pm GMT kick-off)
- There was also an update on Harry Souttar (hip) and others in the squad

The Club's all-time top Premier League goalscorer missed last weekend's Emirates FA Cup victory at Walsall with a muscle injury. Speaking on Thursday, Rodgers confirmed that City's No.9 will be monitored in the coming days.

"The team's looking well, they have trained well," the Foxes manager said in Seagrave.

"We obviously have one or two to look at tomorrow after training to see on availability. Jamie hasn’t done so much over this last period of time but he’s out on the field, so we’ll see what his reaction is like to that."

He had a little bit of a hip issue coming in. He’s trained with the squad today, but he’s one of the players I need to assess.

Harry Souttar, who joined the Club on deadline day, will also be looked at, but has a minor hip issue to contend with.

"We just have to see on that," Rodgers explained. "He had a little bit of a hip issue coming in. He’s trained with the squad today, but he’s one of the players I need to assess. If it wasn’t for this weekend, he’d certainly be ready to go for the following weekend."

Midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, on the other hand, is not expected to be involved this weekend.

"He’s been training well," Leicester's manager continued. "He’s had a personal issue this week that won’t see him involved at the weekend but hopefully going forward he won’t be too far away."

Jonny Evans (calf), Boubakary Soumaré (hamstring) Ricardo Pereira (Achilles) are also progressing well, according to Rodgers.

"The likes of Bouba Soumaré and Jonny Evans will train next week," the Northern Irishman said. "Ricardo Pereira is doing very well. He’ll play in a [youth] game next week.

"He’s looked great over these last few weeks and it’s just about stepping that up. Apart from that it’ll be pretty much the same."
