The Sky Bet Championship table-topping Foxes have started the new season in fine form, winning seven of eight league fixtures and safely emerging past Burton Albion and Tranmere Rovers in the Carabao Cup.

Jürgen Klopp's Reds, on the other hand, have tasted victories in their last six outings in all competitions. They're second in the Premier League, only two points adrift of champions Manchester City, after an impressive start of their own to 2023/24.

Leicester have visited Anfield often over recent campaigns, but find themselves in the second tier this term. That divisional gap between the two sides shouldn't be a reason for pessimism, though, according to Iheanacho.

"We’re excited," the Nigeria international said this week in Seagrave. "We know what Anfield is like. It’s a great atmosphere there. We’re not going there for the atmosphere, we’re going there to compete.

"We played them in pre-season and we’re in a good place now. We’re winning games. It’s a cup game, but we know what they’re like. They’re a strong side, they’ve been doing well this season in the Premier League.

"They’re going to be strong for us, but we need to really work hard to get the win. Hopefully we’ll do that so let’s see what comes out of that. They press really well. We have to be careful of that as well.

"We’ll try to give them a game, but we know they’re a strong side."

Iheanacho has been enthused by City's record-breaking opening to the new season. Remaining focused, however, will be key ahead of the challenges to come. After Liverpool, Leicester visit Blackburn Rovers in the Championship on Sunday.

"So far, so good," he added. "It’s difficult games at home and away. It’s a tough league. There’s a lot of games, so we’ve done well as a result. We’ve won three games in a row now, so hopefully we can keep that doing.

Vardy Seals Success Over Bristol City

Jamie Vardy's penalty was the difference in a 1-0 win for Leicester City over Bristol City.

"We’ve got a cup game next, but when we come back from that, we’ll refocus on the Championship game on Sunday. Hopefully we’ll get another win and keep climbing the stairs.

"It felt so good for us as a group after the Bristol City game, as a team. That win put us top of the table so everyone was really happy. It was really good. It was a great effort from the whole team. We defended really well and attacked well too.

"It was a great shift in a difficult game. We’ll move on from that now and get onto the next one."

The Foxes' playing style has developed this year, with Manager Enzo Maresca building a new ethos at the Club. Iheanacho is enjoying working with the Italian, who has guided the Club to the Championship summit at this early stage.

"It's a new style and we’re adapting to it," City's No.14 explained. "Everyone knows what Enzo is like. We’ll keep repeating the work and changing little things. Enzo keeps bringing a lot of ideas for us. We’ll keep trying them in training.

"It’s something that will help us in the games and hopefully we can surprise the opponent. We are really doing well. Enzo is a top manager and, with his coaches, hopefully we can keep learning and keep winning games."
