The central defender netted the all-important equaliser late on at Kingsmeadow, ensuring that the youngsters had something to show for their efforts in the capital, having trailed to Brodi Hughes’ opener. It was a deserved result for the travelling Foxes, who Nelson believes were in control of proceedings for large parts of the second half.
I feel like we had all the momentum, really, except for a couple of chances, but I think we were properly controlling the game.Ben Nelson
“It was a long game for us,” the 19-year-old reflected following full-time in west London. “I think we made it difficult by going a goal down, but we stuck to what we know, and we played really well.
“We came here and we put up a great fight, so it was brilliant to get the goal back. I feel like we had all the momentum, really, except for a couple of chances, but I think we were properly controlling the game.”
A valuable Premier League 2 point, it moves the side coached by Ben Petty onto seven points from their opening seven games, unbeaten in two league matches having triumphed at Fulham last time out.
We Stuck At It, Says Nelson
Goalscorer Ben Nelson offers his verdict on the Leicester City Development Squad's draw with Chelsea in Premier League 2.
With Newcastle United arriving at LCFC Training Ground on Friday, prior to facing Fleetwood Town in a crucial EFL Trophy fixture next Tuesday (both 7pm kick-offs), there is little time to recover ahead of the next challenge.
The England youth international, who has played five times for the Under-21s this term, also making one senior appearance, added: “It was a great game with a lot of added-time, so there were a few tired legs, but we plugged away at the end, put our bodies on the line and got through it. It was definitely a good game for the neutral, I think.”
