- Leonardo Ulloa says Leicester City thoroughly enjoyed competing in the UEFA Champions League
- The Foxes were knocked out of the competition after a 2-1 aggregate defeat to Atlético Madrid on Tuesday
- Ulloa was happy for the Blue Army to share in the experience of the Club playing against Europe’s elite outfits
While disappointed to exit the UEFA Champions League, Leonardo Ulloa says Leicester City can be proud of the way they went head-to-head with Spanish giants Atlético Madrid over two legs.
The Foxes that are masters at European knockout football, as they now bid to reach the final of the Champions League for the third time in their last four campaigns.
City threw everything they had at their Spanish counterparts but could not build on a second-half strike from which cancelled out Saul Niguez’s earlier effort.
Ulloa, who had an opportunity of his own cleared off the line, said : “I am a little sad because I think we tried to do everything and we did our best.
“It wasn’t enough but I think we are happy for the fans and for the dressing room because we gave everything and we enjoyed the competition.
“We changed it [at half-time] because we needed to play more direct with the long ball and get onto the second balls. After that we started to play and I think it was good because we won long balls.
“It was a little more dangerous for them. It was a good tactic but after the Atlético goal it was difficult for us. We had to make three goals and that was a little too difficult. We tried to do everything. Sometimes it’s possible and sometimes we can’t.”
Ulloa believes his side can take plenty of positives from their determined display, but focus now lies firmly on City’s final six Premier League fixtures.
The striker added: “They’re a very good team and they work so hard. We are happy because in the second half we pushed them. It wasn’t enough but I think the performance was good.
“Now we have to stay focused and think about the Premier League only.”
