Leicester City 3 Hull City 1

Foxes Victorious After Comeback Against Hull

Leicester City came from behind to win for the first time this season after recording a deserved 3-1 victory over Hull City at King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

A determined and dominant opening 15 minutes from an unchanged Foxes side saw Harry Maguire put in a fine challenge to prevent Marc Albrighton from slotting in at the back post, while Robert Huth had two chances of his own to break the deadlock.

But Hull cleared the German’s second attempt and from the resulting counter-attack took the lead against the run of play, with Sam Clucas sweeping home a deflected cross to put Marco Silva’s men in front.

That did not faze the hosts, who just 12 minutes later were level. A brilliant exchange of passes between Jamie Vardy and Christian Fuchs eventually saw the latter slot in to haul City level.

Leicester’s second goal proved to be a matter of when, not if, after City put in a convincing second-half display to go on and win the game, despite Maguire shaving the post for Hull a minute after the break.

It was a piece of mesmerising skill of Riyad Mahrez that helped Leicester turn the game on its head, as the Algerian dropped his shoulder four times to shrug off Maguire and Andrew Robertson before firing home from the edge of the box.

Silva’s side did well in several stages of the second half to mount a number of attacks, but the wasteful Kamil Grosicki was often off target, while Kasper Schmeichel produced an excellent save to tip Oumar Niasse’s placed effort round the post with seven minutes to play.

City eventually went on to claim a second successive 3-1 Premier League win in just six days, with Tom Huddlestone’s own goal rounding off the scoring on Filbert Way.

Key moment

Scorer of a huge goal for the Foxes at Hull City in their bid to avoid the drop in the 2014/15 campaign, it was Riyad Mahrez who netted another important strike on Saturday afternoon.

Often stifled by defensive overloads from opposition back lines this term, the Algerian needed only a yard of space to shoot and fire beyond Eldin Jakupovic to score his side’s second goal. Leicester looked very comfortable after going 2-1 up.

Who impressed?

Aiming to build on his brace against Liverpool, Jamie Vardy looked just as lively on Saturday and his role in City’s first goal was simply superb.

The England international raced to the byline before delivering into Christian Fuchs and could have had another assist just five minutes later should Marc Albrighton have been more alert to the striker’s dangerous delivery.

Where do we stand?

Back-to-back Premier League wins sees the Foxes move five points clear of the bottom three and remain 15th in the table. City are now level on points with Bournemouth after the Cherries picked up a valuable point at Manchester United earlier in the day.

Coming up...

Leicester City don’t contest a Premier League fixture for two weeks, with a trip to West Ham United next up on Saturday 18 March. First up is a huge UEFA Champions League Last-16 tie with Sevilla a week on Tuesday, as the Foxes aim to overturn a 2-1 first-leg deficit.
