Leicester City midfielder Matty James has joined Championship outfit Barnsley on loan until the end of the 2016/17 season.

The 25-year-old heads to Oakwell Stadium for a third loan spell of his career, having spent two seasons at Preston North End before joining the Foxes from Manchester United in the summer of 2012.

James played a major role in helping City gain promotion to the Premier League and made 29 appearances during the 2014/15 campaign, before picking up a knee injury in May 2015 that kept him out of first team action throughout the following season.

The Lancashire-born central midfielder spent 2015/16 recovering from injury, before making his first appearance in 19 months as a substitute in the in December – his 100th game for the Club.

James will now link up with a Barnsley side that currently sit eighth in the Championship table, just four points off the play-offs.

Should he be registered in time, James could make his debut for Paul Heckingbottom’s men against Rotherham United on Saturday afternoon.
