Wood: Everton Game Is Massive

A sold out King Power Stadium on the opening day of the season will be a force to be reckoned with according to City’s New Zealand international Chris Wood.
The Foxes were handed an exciting test at home to Everton on the opening weekend of the 2014/15 Premier League season when the fixtures were released last week, and on the back of record-breaking Season Ticket sales, Wood can’t wait to sample the atmosphere on 16 August.

It will be a first Premier League season for a decade on Filbert Way, and following a 2013/14 campaign that saw the Foxes play some of the best football seen by a Leicester side in years, supporters have been quick to snap up nearly 23,000 Season Tickets this time around.

Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City are all on Leicester City’s agenda in the opening five games, and the excitement is not lost on City’s 22-year-old striker, who believes the backing of the Blue Army give the team an added edge.

Reflecting back on last week’s fixture release, the January 2013 signing from West Bromwich Albion told LCFC.com: “As soon as I woke up I checked Twitter and checked the Club website to see our first few games.

“The first five are always the ones you look for, and I thought they were going to be very challenging, but it’s a good test for us, especially when we’ve done so well last season in the Championship. The first five games are always going to be the ones where we can test ourselves.”

City will be able to gain an extra insight into their opening day opponents over in Thailand on 27 July, when they take on the Toffees in a pre-season friendly, and Wood is eager to take all he can from that match.

He added: “We’re all looking forward to going over to Thailand for another few days and cracking on with the games against Everton to see what they’re about. I don’t think it will be exactly the same as what it will be like on the opening day of the season, but it’ll help us get ready for that.

“The first game of the season is going to be massive. Hopefully it’ll be a sell-out along with all the home games, and I hope we can prepare well enough over pre-season, get the boys right and make sure we’re ready for Everton on opening day.

“The atmosphere it what makes a game, and we want to give the supporters something to cheer about by winning football matches, that’s our job.

“When we see just how many Season Tickets have been sold and hear talk of sell out crowds at King Power Stadium, it spurs us on even more to do well for our fans in every game. They’re fantastic in every game and it really gives us that extra kick.”
