Walsh: Okazaki Will Be Fans’ Favourite
And having already added quality in the form of Christian Fuchs and Robert Huth, City’s third signing of the summer is one that is certain to win over the fans given his style of play.
As well as being a scorer of some spectacular goals, Okazaki’s persistence is a feature that Walsh says will endear him to the Blue Army.
“He’s a very good player – he’s a real talent,” Walsh told Foxes Player. “He’s a striker with a good strike rate in the Bundesliga, which is a very strong league.
“I’m really pleased to get him. He’s a real talent. I think the fans will take to him. Not only is he good with the ball, but also out of possession he’s exactly what we need.
“He’s a high-energy player. He’s very opportunistic. Any mistakes that are made by defenders, he capitalises on them and stick the ball in the net.
“Out of possession, he knows how to play. He knows the positional sense and he’s able to close players down. His work rate is phenomenal.”
And according to Walsh, some extensive research went into the signing of Okazaki to ensure the clinical frontman is the right player for both the Club and the Premier League.
He added: “We’ve been watching him now for the best part of two years.
“We do the same with all our signings – we try and do our homework in both watching them play, but also trying to find a little bit about their character as well.
“Shinji’s a good fit for the Premier League because he’s mentally tough and I think you need to be not just physically capable, but mentally strong as well. He’s obviously Japan’s star player at the moment.”
