City CEO Named Businesswoman of the Year

Leicester City’s Chief Executive Officer Susan Whelan has received a prestigious industry accolade from one of Ireland’s leading publications for women.

Dublin-born Susan, also a Board Director of King Power International, was named winner of the IMAGE Businesswoman of the Year Award at a ceremony in The Hibernian Club, Stephens Green’s, Dublin 2.

Susan was appointed to the Leicester City Board as the owner’s representative when King Power completed its takeover of the Club in 2010. In July 2011 she was appointed CEO and has executive responsibility for all aspects of the Club’s day-to-day management.

In addition to being awarded the overall title of Image Businesswoman of the Year, Susan also won the IMAGE Overseas Irish Businesswoman award.

Richard Power, MD of IMAGE publications, said, “Not only is Susan a fantastic winner and representative of IMAGE Magazine, she proudly represents Ireland in a global capacity.”

Susan Whelan said: “It is a privilege to be the recipient of such prestigious awards and my thanks go to IMAGE Publications, Enterprise Ireland and RTE.

“To be recognised by three organisations who champion and support the achievements of women in business is a great honour and I am extremely proud to receive these awards.”

The IMAGE Businesswoman Awards are sponsored by Enterprise Ireland and RTE Radio 1.

According to Julie Sinnamon, Enterprise Ireland Director for global business development: “Enterprise Ireland wants to encourage and assist many more women to start their own high-potential companies that can win business abroad and create jobs at home. The award recipients are all exemplary in their entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to business excellence. Female entrepreneurship is a vitally important element of the business landscape and these awards will help put the spotlight on the contribution of female entrepreneurship in Ireland.”
