Nugent: It's A Great Run

City striker David Nugent was delighted to come out on top after what he called a ‘scrappy’ game against Wolves at King Power Stadium.

Nugent’s 73rd minute strike sealed a crucial 2-1 win on Thursday night after Wolves’ Bakary Sako equalised Anthony Knockaert’s opener early in the second half.

The result leaves City three points clear of third placed Hull City ahead of the Tigers’ trip to The New Den to face Millwall on Saturday afternoon, and stretched the unbeaten run to eight matches in all competitions.

However City must now wait until February 9 to add to their points tally when they tackle Peterborough at London Road.

Nugent added: “It’s a great run for us, and we don’t want this break to come, but it’s got to happen for internationals.

“We’ll have a break, recharge the batteries, come back and hopefully put in a good performance against Peterborough.

“It’s nice to be able to sit back and relax as the results come in.

“We’ve done our job and got the three points – we’re three points ahead of Hull City who are in third, and they’re under a bit of pressure now, so it’ll be nice to sit back and relax [this weekend].”

The goal was Nugent’s 14th of the campaign, and his 12th at King Power, however it was the result that carried much more significance for the top scorer, especially after a mini-revival from Wolves in the second period.

He added: “We were the better side in the first half, and we could have been 2-0 or 3-0 up with the chances that we had, but all credit to Wolves, I thought they came out in the second half and deserved their equaliser and maybe to go in front.

“But we steadied the ship and managed to get that all-important goal with 15 minutes to go, and it kind of killed it off a little bit, but they came back at us again and could have got the equaliser.

“At the end of the day we scored two and they scored one, and we got the three points.

“I don’t think we were at our best today, and Wolves in that second half probably deserved something from the game.

“It was scrappy, and we’re winning these kind of scrappy games right now.

“At the start of the season we’d probably have lost that game, but we’ve got great endeavor in the squad now and great belief that if a team get back into the game, we can go on and win it.”
