Temperatures were much cooler following a heavy downpour throughout the early hours of the morning, while the rain continued to fall as the Foxes brought to an end their time in the state of Carinthia.

The six-day spell in southern Austria has brought with it many challenges, not least coping with the heat and humidity during intense training sessions.

But the City squad have benefitted greatly from their pre-season training camp, both on and off the pitch. It has given them a chance to improve their fitness, and has also allowed new members of the team to get to know their fellow Foxes.

The manager oversees a session at the Velden training camp.

Reflecting on his side’s time in Austria, manager Craig Shakespeare said: “It’s been very pleasing, the players’ attitude to training has been extemporary. We’ve got some good work done. That’s been the most enjoyable thing.

“We’ve had a few new players in in Harry [Maguire] and Vicente [Iborra] and they’ve settled in really well. So from a point of view of coaching and team morale, it has been excellent.

“It’s a glorious location and we’ve been getting up early for bike rides and then training twice a day but, all in all, I thought the application has been terrific.”

So far I’ve been really, really pleased with the way things have gone and the way they’ve reacted to things we have asked them to do.

Shakespeare says he has been thrilled with the way his players have acquitted themselves during their time in Austria.

Discussing City’s commitment, he added: “I think it means a lot to any coaching member, whatever role you’ve got. That respect is a two-way thing.

“So far I’ve been really, really pleased with the way things have gone and the way they’ve reacted to things we have asked them to do. They’ve gone about it in the right manner so that is very pleasing.”
