The 32-year-old stopper signed for an undisclosed fee on a three-year-deal after flying out to Hong Kong to link up with the Foxes squad, who are currently there to contest the Premier League Asia Trophy.

Jakupović believes he has a difficult challenge ahead of him, but one that he cannot wait to get stuck into after making the move to King Power Stadium.

“I’m very happy and excited that the deal is finally done,” the ‘keeper exclusively told LCFC TV. “I’m very excited to be a part of something special here and I can’t wait for the first game.

“I knew from the beginning that it will be difficult for myself because Kasper [Schmeichel] is one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.

A healthy competition is always good and that’s only a positive thing. For sure, I’ll wait for my chance but I am here and I’m very excited.

“I’m going to fight and I’m here to push. A healthy competition is always good and that’s only a positive thing. For sure, I’ll wait for my chance but I am here and I’m very excited.”

Upon meeting manager Craig Shakespeare, his backroom staff and of course the Foxes squad, Jakupović spoke of a positive working atmosphere.

He continued: “I had to fly to Hong Kong to meet the guys, do the medical test and sign. I came and everyone was prepared.

“I met the guys at lunch and there was a very good atmosphere. The boys are really good – they’re cool – and I’m delighted to be here.”

The former Hull man linked up with the Foxes in Hong Kong.

Jakupović has spent the last five seasons at Hull City, where he played with Foxes summer addition Harry Maguire.

“I spoke to Harry when he signed for Leicester and I was really happy for him because he really deserved this move,” Jakupović said. “He did a great job last year in Hull.

“I spent my last five years there. For a goalkeeper from Switzerland or Bosnia or Europe, it’s different to come here.

“After two years I was mentally stronger and physically stronger and it was much easier. Last season was sad, but from my side, I was happy to play around 22 games, especially when Marco Silva came.

All smiles from the Bosnian-born 'keeper after signing for City.

“I had the chance to play in goal again and I think I gave them a good performance.”

Leicester City often make a lasting impression on teams, not least over the past three seasons. The greatest escape the Premier League has ever seen, coupled with them becoming champions of England, are two achievements Jakupović kept a close eye on.

He added: “I remember when I played for the first time against Leicester in 2012. It was 0-0 at the KC Stadium and then after this, two years later they went up.

“It was a little bit difficult in the Premier League after the beginning, but I know after Christmas they went on an amazing run.

“After that followed them becoming the Premier League champions and I was really happy for the team.”
