The Foxes beat German Bundesliga outfit Borussia Mönchengladbach 2-1 at King Power Stadium thanks to Vardy’s second-half double.

City begin their 2017/18 campaign at Emirates Stadium on Friday evening and the England international says his team-mates simply cannot wait to get the new Premier League season underway.

Speaking to LCFC TV after the game, he said: “We knew that they were going to come here and keep possession but we also knew that we could hurt them if we stayed in a nice tight block, then hit them on the counter.

Vardy Pleased With Brace

Jamie Vardy was pleased to be back amongst the goals after bagging a brace against Borussia Monchengladbach.

“I could probably have scored a few more myself. I could have had a couple in the first half as well but the important thing was getting a performance and a win in our last pre-season game.

“It showed our character that we’ve come from behind though and it’s given us momentum going into the first league game.

“Everyone is looking forward to it. We wanted the season to come around as quickly and possible. Everybody is fit as a fiddle and raring to go.”

Matty James provided a brilliant long pass for Vardy’s first goal, before City new boy Kelechi Iheanacho came off the bench to set up his strike partner for a second.

Vardy is embraced by his Foxes colleagues.

Vardy continued: “It was a perfect ball from Jamo (Matty James), but then he did it again and put it straight on the centre half’s head, so I’ll have to have a word with him about that!

“It was very unselfish [of Iheanacho]. He’s seen that I’m in the middle alone when he’s gone through and the ‘keeper has gone across to him. It’s unfortunate that he took a slight knock but I’m sure he’ll be fine for next week.

“It’s always nice to get goals, especially as a striker. I’ve got two tonight and hopefully that will take me forward into next week.”
