The Foxes head to Bramall Lane on Tuesday evening (7:45pm kick-off) in Round 2 on the back of one victory and a loss from their first two fixtures, leaving them eighth in the fledgling league standings.

Speaking following a 2-0 success over Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday, Simpson said: “We knew what they’re about, we watched the clips. They had a good game last week against Man City.

“With our fans, we knew that if we started well, we would be okay. To get a goal early like that [scored by Shinji Okazaki], it settled us down and it was pretty comfortable.

Simpson's Brighton Verdict

Danny Simpson says Shinji Okazaki's early goal was key against Brighton on Saturday.

“[Okazaki] had a great pre-season. He’s good at them goals, he is always sharp and always on to things around the box, that’s the type of player he is.

“It’s great for him and it’s just nice to get a comfortable win at home and a clean sheet.”

Simpson has also been delighted to see Harry Maguire settle in so quickly at the Club after signing from Hull City earlier this summer.

“We’ve seen him play like that for Hull,” he told LCFC TV.

“He’s settled in really well. I thought he was excellent last week against Arsenal. Defensively he is strong, he is good on the ball. Last week he got an assist and today he got a goal.”

We put [Arsenal] to one side, focussed on the positives and made sure we got a good result today.

After the disappointment of suffering a 4-3 defeat at Arsenal on the opening day of the new campaign, Simpson says City are looking ahead with excitement to the coming fixtures.

He continued: “We were deflated last week. We felt that we deserved something. When you go to Arsenal and score three goals, you think you’re going to at least get a point.

“We watched the videos and there were a lot of positives to take from it. We put it to one side, focussed on the positives and made sure we got a good result today.”
