- Islam Slimani (2) and Ahmed Musa also struck for the Foxes in south Yorkshire
- Gray also thanked the 2,000-strong contingent from the Blue Army on Tuesday evening

Following a goalless first half at Bramall Lane, the England Under-21s international winger broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute with an outstanding solo effort inside the box.

It started a 15-minute spell which saw City take control of the tie with Islam Slimani following up with a brace before Ahmed Musa’s strike late into stoppage time.

Speaking to LCFC TV, Gray said: “In the end we got the job done. The first half was a bit slow but we knew it would open up. We said in the changing room we needed to be more ruthless.

Gray Delighted With Second Half Display

Foxes midfielder Demarai Gray talks to LCFC TV after his side's 4-1 victory over Sheffield United in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night...

“We knew that if we scored one that we would be quite comfortable and that’s how it was. The change of personnel was good for everyone to get fitness up.

“The result was the most important part. The game opened up and that is perfect for me. To get the ball in those areas I have got to be fearless.

“That’s what I want to do and today it paid off. These kind of games can be difficult if you don’t approach them properly.

“We knew that once we had scored one, we needed to kill the game off. We managed the game well, even if they had their spell at the end.

“That was to be expected but everybody is happy with the result.”

For many in Craig Shakespeare’s squad, it was an opportunity to stake a claim for a starting berth in his side for this Saturday’s trip to face Manchester United at Old Trafford.

On the back of a productive evening in south Yorkshire, Gray was pleased with his efforts.

He added: “I want to play every game, both cup games and Premier League, so I need to keep doing what I’m doing. Hopefully I’ll get a consistent opportunity.”

Gray, 21, also tipped his hat to the travelling Blue Army who, positioned behind the goal in the second period, helped the Foxes get over the line against Chris Wilder’s men.

“The fans, they came up on a Tuesday night and they made a lot of noise for us,” Gray continued.

“Attacking that goal in the second half, it was a bit confidence boost.

“They’ve travelled up and we’ve given them what they deserved for their support. We’re always grateful to them and they have always been good for me as well.”
