Following a goalless first period in which the Foxes had to do some defending in, David Wagner’s men took the lead a minute after the break as Laurent Depoitre fired home.

But just four minutes later, City were level. Andy King was fouled in the area by Chris Lowe and Jamie Vardy made no mistakes from the spot.

Opportunities to win it followed for Craig Shakespeare’s men through Vardy and Islam Slimani, but Chilwell says his side were happy to take the point.

“It was a bittersweet point,” said the Leicester left back. “Towards the end of the match we could have gone on and won it.

Chilwell: A Bittersweet Point

Foxes defender Ben Chilwell talks to LCFC TV after his side's 1-1 draw with Huddersfield Town in the Premier League on Saturday...

“We had some chances, but they had some chances as well, especially after the first 30 minutes, which we managed to ride out.

“We kept a clean sheet in the first half and it was a game that could really have gone either way. After the final 20 minutes, we felt like we could have won it, so we’re disappointed, but then we’re happy not to have lost and get the point.

“The first half wasn’t good enough and everyone knew that. The gaffer spoke the truth at half-time and we knew we had to lift our performance.

“We came out in the second half and we conceded soon after, but after that we showed a lot more quality and could have won it.

We had a few chances at the end that didn’t go our way, but that’s how it is sometimes. We’ll look forward to the Tuesday match now and then back to the Premier League next weekend.

“We knew that if we went behind, we had to react quickly and our heads couldn’t go down. We had to be positive and play it forward quickly.

“We did that and we had a lot of possession higher up the pitch and created more chances.”

Next up for the Foxes is a Carabao Cup Third Round tie with Liverpool at King Power Stadium, before another home clash against the Reds follows in the Premier League on Saturday.

Chilwell continued: “We had a few chances at the end that didn’t go our way, but that’s how it is sometimes. We’ll look forward to the Tuesday match now and then back to the Premier League next weekend.

“We’ve been playing well so far this season, but the points just haven’t gone our way. We’ve played against some good opposition but we just haven’t quite got the points.

“Today (Saturday) was the opposite really. The performance wasn’t as good as it has been in the past few weeks, but we did get a point away from home, which shows that we’re doing something right.”

City’s No.3 made eight appearances on loan for the Terriers during the 2015/16 season and says he enjoyed his return to John Smith’s Stadium, this time in Leicester colours.

He added: “It’s nice to be back here playing where I made my league debut and had a good few months here. I was looking forward to the opportunity show what I can do.”
