Taggart: A Respectable Performance

A thrilling spectacle ended in a 3-2 reverse for the Foxes, who showed spirit and character at King Power Stadium not for the first time this season.

Mohamed Salah and Philippe Coutinho gave Jurgen Klopp’s men a 2-0 lead in the first period, before Shinji Okazaki poked over the line to give City hope heading into the break.

A swift counter attack from the Reds was then rounded off by Jordan Henderson, but City replied again through Jamie Vardy’s header.

The Leicester frontman then had an opportunity to level matters late on from the spot, but couldn’t beat Simon Mignolet from 12 yards, meaning Liverpool returned to Merseyside with all three Premier League points.

Reflecting to LCFC Radio at the full-time whistle, Taggart said: “First of all, what a fantastic game of football that was. It had absolutely everything, but in the end Leicester will come away feeling very disappointed to lose that game.

“They had a great chance to get themselves back on level terms, but unfortunately, they couldn’t convert the penalty.

“They maybe had a shout for another penalty, but in the end it just wasn’t to be. It was a gallant effort from the lads, but that touch of class that Liverpool had has won it for them.

“It’s a respectable performance from the Leicester City boys and they have to take the positives in this game and move on to the next one.”
