Leicester City’s Development Squad begin their Premier League International Cup journey with an exciting opener against Hertha Berlin at King Power Stadium.

Die Alte Dame visit Filbert Way on Wednesday evening (7pm kick-off) and will face a City side in good form, following a brilliant 2-0 success over Chelsea in Premier League 2 last week.

Steve Beaglehole’s men, who had Ahmed Musa and Yohan Benalouane among their ranks, were deserved victors, delivering a display typical of their excellent start to the new season.

It proved to be an enjoyable affair for the hosts with all among Beaglehole’s squad delivering fine performances against one of the strongest sides in the Under-23s footballing pyramid.

Beaglehole’s preview

Speaking following the success over Chelsea, the Development Squad manager expressed his excitement ahead of this Wednesday’s clash after such a successful latest outing.

“Every game presents a different test,” he said, previewing the Hertha tie. “It’ll be nice to be back at King Power Stadium, it was a great night when we played West Ham there.”

On the Chelsea match, he added: “We had a game plan to stop them playing. They are a good side. We worked extremely hard to stop them from playing out from the back.”

Thomas in form

Having signed from Coventry City this summer, midfielder Thomas has settled in quickly with the Club’s Development Squad, scoring four goals already in PL2.

“I’m happy to get the two goals and help the team get the win,” he told LCFC TV after inspiring the victory over Chelsea.

“Everyone is delighted in the changing room because Chelsea are good opposition. We’re going well in the table so to get the three points tonight was very important.”

International pedigree

This will be City’s fourth year in the PL International Cup, a competition which has presented them with a host of extremely beneficial challenges over the past three seasons.

After the Hertha encounter, Beaglehole’s men, who reached the 2015 semi-finals, will then contest a double-header of fixtures both at home and away.

First up, City travel to the North East on Wednesday 5 December to face Sunderland before welcoming Legia Warsaw to Holmes Park on Thursday 14 December.
