- City next face Tottenham Hotspur in Premier League 2 Division 1 on Friday
The Foxes emerged from Oakwell with three points to climb to the top of Group F, a pool they share with Everton and Portsmouth, courtesy of Admiral Muskwe (2) and Josh Gordon strikes.
While City’s fifth win in six matches adds to the rising optimism within Beaglehole’s squad, the Under-23s manager admitted that their performance levels dropped slightly in south Yorkshire.
Reflecting on the victory, he told LCFC TV: “We were sound defensively; we didn’t get troubled much. In the first 15 or 20 minutes, we could have been out of sight.
“It could have been more emphatic. I’m from Yorkshire so I’ve got a great respect for Barnsley. They have a great steel and they never give up.
“Overall, it has been a great start to the new season. We have got to keep it going. We can still improve in so many areas.
It is great to work with a group who are eager to learn and that is certainly a fitting description.Steve Beaglehole
“To come here and score three goals away from home is brilliant. [Barnsley] have got some players who will go on in years to come and play first team football.
“If a side isn’t at their best and they still pick up points, it’s a good sign. We are a good team and there are some good players in this side.”
All three goals displayed different attributes with Muskwe’s efforts requiring skill and Gordon’s being a memorable strike from 30 yards.
“It makes a big, big difference when you have players who can score and create goals,” Beaglehole added. “We are lucky to have that kind of talent in the squad.
“I’m pleased with the lads, they are a great bunch to work with. It is great to work with a group who are eager to learn and that is certainly a fitting description.”
