Puel, who has previously worked at AS Monaco, Lille, Lyon, Nice and Southampton, admitted the "fantastic" opportunity to manage Leicester City was too good to turn down.

“It’s the first time that I have taken a club in the middle of the season but I think it’s a good opportunity for me to come back in a good club with fantastic fans,” he said live on LCFC Radio.

The Frenchman was joined in the studio by Gerry Taggart and Matt Elliott.

“It’s been an interesting and busy day. After Southampton, I wanted to take one season to recover and then take a good project at the end of the season.

“When you receive a project like Leicester, it’s a good possibility. They have good potential, it is an ambitious club. I am here to make the fans happy.”

It’s important now to find a good consistency and good confidence within the players. I have a good feeling with this.

Claude Puel First Team Manager

Puel spent Thursday familiarising himself with his new surroundings with a tour of King Power Stadium, which gave him the chance to meet the Club’s staff for the first time.

The Castres-born manager guided Southampton to an eighth-place finish in the Premier League last term alongside a campaign in the UEFA Europa League and a run to the EFL Cup final.

“It’s important to make a good decision” he added. “It was quick and fast but it is important to give a good answer. Taking a club like Leicester is a fantastic opportunity to come back to the Premier League.

“It’s got difficulties because the beginning [of the season] was hard. It’s a good challenge. It’s important now to find a good consistency and good confidence within the players.

“I have a good feeling with this. It is important to have the ability to take in the information and to keep a good feeling to help us prepare for the next game.

“The two last results will be important for the dynamic and the good feeling around the Club.”

On why he joined City, Puel concluded: "It is an opportunity to train at a good club with ambition, good possibilities and a good structure.

"The players, the owners and the quality of the fans and the people, they are fantastic. Now it is important for the Club to find stability for the next seasons."

You can watch an exclusive interview with Claude Puel on LCFC TV on Friday morning before his first press conference as City manager at 1pm.
