Morgan Out To Impress

Skipper Wes Morgan says every member of the Leicester City squad will be aiming to showcase their strengths to Claude Puel prior to Sunday’s clash with Everton.

City will play under Puel for the first time at King Power Stadium this weekend after the Frenchman took training at Belvoir Drive on Friday.

For Morgan, the encounter with Everton is a chance for the Foxes to prove to the new manager that they are more than capable of getting results in the Premier League.

“From a neutral point of view, it’s a clean slate for everyone," said Morgan. "Everyone wants to impress and everyone wants to show the manager what they can do so that they make it into the first XI.

“It’s an opportunity for everyone to show what they’re about and prove a point to the new manager. It’s up to the manager to see what he’s got and choose his best XI based on what he sees.”

Maybe the personnel might change on the pitch, but Everton have an identity and I can’t see there being much of a change to that.

Morgan was pleased to see Michael Appleton remain as the Club’s Assistant Manager, alongside Pascal Plancque, having built up a positive relationship with the former Oxford United manager.

City’s No.5 said: “He’s joined us in the off season and he’s been with us in pre-season and the beginning of the season.

“He knows what we’re about, so hopefully he can pass on his knowledge of the team and his knowledge of the game in general to the manager and help in that sense.

“He’s been very good. He’s come with some new ideas and he’s implemented his thoughts on the team. He’s here to support the manager and help out the best he can and that’s exactly what he’s done.”

All smiles from the City defender.

Everton visit Filbert Way having not won in their previous six games in all competitions, but Morgan believes they will still try and stamp their authority on the game.

He added: “I think if you look at their games in general, I’m sure there’s not going to be too much change in terms of how they play and the style they play.

“Maybe the personnel might change on the pitch, but Everton have an identity and I can’t see there being much of a change to that.

“You can’t really expect anything in football, but you can have an idea of what to expect and you can try and counteract that.”
