Foxes Fans Dig Deep For Royal British Legion

Leicester City supporters raised £17,526.38 bidding on signed poppy-adorned Foxes shirts worn by the Club’s stars this month – with all proceeds going to the Royal British Legion.

- The Blue Army raised £17,526.38 buying signed, poppy-adorned, match-worn Leicester City shirts
- City staged their official Remembrance Fixture against Everton last month, a 2-0 victory
- In total, the Club has raised £26,706.80, with all proceeds going to the Royal British Legion

Worn by the City players during the 2-0 success over Everton and the 2-2 draw at Stoke City, the shirts proved popular among the Blue Army with Jamie Vardy’s eventually selling for £2,500.

Algeria international Riyad Mahrez’s was the second highest earning shirt, going for £2,250, while Harry Maguire’s attracted a winning bid of £2,070.

Maguire said: “It’s fantastic to see all of the shirts, not just mine, raising thousands for a great cause, the Royal British Legion.

“Since I’ve been here, I’ve felt the support of the Leicester fans and they’ve shown once again just how amazing they are by bidding on the shirts.”

The poppy and the work of The Legion are often associated with the First and Second World Wars, including elderly veterans.

This year, however, The Legion encouraged people not only to honour the fallen of both conflicts and those which followed, but also to support and consider those still living and serving.

On Sunday 29 October, the Club hosted its annual Remembrance Fixture at King Power Stadium against Everton and the Foxes faithful once again dug deep to raise £4,746.15 at collection points on the day.

As usual, the Blue Army also supported the cause by taking part in a stadium-wide poppy mosaic on Filbert Way, staged during an emotive sounding of the Last Post ahead of kick-off.

Limited edition pin badges, adorned by the Club’s crest, were also available and all proceeds from the £4,434.27 raised will also be donated directly to The Legion.

The Leicester City supporters, every year, always look forward to our Remembrance Fixture. As usual, it was an emotional and poignant day for everybody at King Power Stadium.

In total, across all activities over the past month, the Club has raised £26,706.80.

Club Ambassador Alan ‘The Birch’ Birchenall said: “Every year, everyone at the Club is immensely proud to support such a worthy cause as the Royal British Legion.

“The Leicester City supporters, every year, always look forward to our Remembrance Fixture. As usual, it was an emotional and poignant day for everybody at King Power Stadium.

“It makes for a wonderful spectacle in tribute to those members of our Armed Forces, past and present, who have given so much to this country.

"The funds raised by our wonderful supporters never comes as a surprise, they always find a way to give whatever they can, and everybody at the Club is so grateful once again.”
