Betting Preview: Southampton vs. Leicester City

The Foxes are looking to make it four league wins on the spin as they visit Southampton on Wednesday night and, among their recent success have been wins over Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley.

As for the Saints, they’ve managed a single victory in seven league games. With Puel returning to his former club for the first time, the Blue Army will be hoping it’s a happy homecoming for the Frenchman.

Neither side have struggled for goals of late, though Southampton have conceded occasionally. Each of Leicester’s last nine games have seen the net bulge before the interval, as have four of the Saints' last five.

First-half: over 0.5 goals is a 1/2 shot. Both sides have also scored in each of their last four matches apiece. So backing both teams to score looks good value at 4/5.

Smart money...

Three wins in a row mean the East Midlands club head into this game with their tails up. With Mauricio Pellegrino’s men having already lost four times at home in all competitions, Leicester to win at 5/2 could prove popular.

The Foxes tend to have been quick out of the traps recently. They’ve outscored their opponents in the opening half in two of the previous three games – going in 2-0 up against Spurs.

Southampton, meanwhile, have trailed at the interval in six of their previous 13 games, so first-half result: Leicester looks a smart call at 16/5.

One man who’s been strong for the visitors is Demarai Gray. The 21-year-old has been playing a more advanced role in recent weeks and has scored in successive games. He’s 7/2 in the anytime goalscorer market.

Long shots...

We’ve mentioned Gray already and the former Birmingham City man has opened the scoring in two of Leicester’s previous seven games. So first goalscorer: Gray at 10/1 could be well worth a flutter.

The Foxes have been strong starters in recent times. Puel’s charges have scored in the opening 10 minutes in two of their last four games. Time of first Leicester Goal: 1-10 mins is also available at 10/1.
