The Foxes stormed into a 3-0 lead before the break thanks to efforts from Riyad Mahrez, Shinji Okazaki and Academy graduate King.

Maya Yoshida pulled one back after the interval, but Okazaki’s second of the game sealed all three Premier League points on the south coast.

“It’s massively satisfying for us to come to Southampton because we’ve struggled here in recent years, so to put in a performance like that and win by that scoreline was unbelievable,” said King.

“It just shows the confidence that’s flowing through the camp at the moment.

Andy King credited Leicester City's performance during their 4-1 win at Southampton on Wednesday.

“In all honesty, maybe we could have and should have scored more tonight, especially in the first half. The chances we created were brilliant and to win 4-1, we’re delighted.

“We’re enjoying our football at the moment and you can see that with all the positive results that we’ve had.

“We want to try and keep the momentum going and the quicker the games come for us the better at the moment.”

Okazaki’s double against Southampton resulted in plenty of praise from the City dressing room, not least from King, who also had some kind words for stopper Kasper Schmeichel.

It was nice because it’s been a while since I’ve scored, but hopefully that will help me get on a bit of a run now,” said the Leicester No.10. “I was delighted to get on the scoresheet again.

He continued: “Shinji was brilliant tonight and, for him to score two, everyone was delighted because he works so hard for the team. Sometimes that doesn’t get seen.

“Obviously, there was a massive save from Kasper as well when we really needed it. The top goalkeepers stay concentrated in the game and they may only need to make one save – he did that tonight and that’s brilliant.

“It kept us that cushion and he’s a top, top ‘keeper and he’s shown that for a number of years.”

King’s first start since September resulted in a maiden 2017/18 strike and naturally, the Wales international is hoping for more in the coming weeks.

“It was nice because it’s been a while since I’ve scored, but hopefully that will help me get on a bit of a run now,” said the Leicester No.10. “I was delighted to get on the scoresheet again.”

King handed his shirt to a member of the Blue Army after the game to show his appreciation for them making the 320-mile round trip to St. Mary’s.

“We’re forever grateful for them,” added the midfielder. “We’ll always go over to them regardless of the result because it’s a massive commitment for them to travel up and down the country, especially this last week in the weather conditions.

“We’re just glad to put a smile on their face back on those long journeys with two wins.”
