The Foxes will be the visitors at Boundary Park in Round 3 of the Checkatrade Trophy on the back of a 0-0 stalemate with West Ham United at Victoria Road in Premier League 2 last week.

Petty, who works closely with manager Steve Beaglehole, has been enthused by City’s form this season as they look to stretch their unbeaten run to 20 matches in Oldham.

“It could be our toughest match so far, absolutely,” he told LCFC TV. “Richie Wellens, a former Leicester player is their manager and he’s come to watch us a few times this season.

“He’ll have his team tooled up for the match. We know it’ll be a tough game but we’ve proven our ability in this competition already this season.”

Leicester’s youngsters are impressing on all fronts and remain in contention for four competitions, something Petty and the whole coaching staff are proud of this term.

We can go into the final part of the season with so much excitement and so much to play for, it’s a fantastic place for that group of players to be in.

“We can go into the final part of the season with so much excitement and so much to play for, it’s a fantastic place for that group of players to be in.”
