Albrighton: Recover Quickly

Marc Albrighton believes Leicester City paid the price for an incomplete performance during the 2-1 defeat by Everton on Wednesday night.

While the Foxes impressed in phases at Goodison Park, defensive errors and a lack of potency up front provided Sam Allardyce’s men with a platform to secure all three points.

“We played well in spells but to play well in spells in this league isn’t enough,” Albrighton told LCFC TV pitchside in Merseyside at full-time.

“When they got their first [of two goals scored by Theo Walcott], it knocked the stuffing out of us a little bit and we never quite recovered until the second half.

Albrighton: Not Quite Good Enough

Marc Albrighton reflects on Leicester City's 2-1 defeat by Everton at Goodison Park.

“That’s not enough, you can’t do that at this level. We got back in it with the penalty [scored by Jamie Vardy], but it wasn’t enough today.”

Both Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho were denied by the woodwork and Albrighton admits that, despite being disappointed by the performance, City could have collected a point.

He added: “That’s right. We started the game well and we put a lot of pressure on them from the first whistle. Unfortunately, we only played well in spells and that’s not enough.

“It’s just bad luck. On another day, it goes in and we come away with a point but tonight, it was one of those nights that it didn’t drop the right side of the line for us.”

Looking ahead to the future, Albrighton was philosophical about City’s chances of recovering quickly: “I think the beauty of football, at this level especially, you have a couple of days and then you get another chance to put things right if it’s not been a great result.

"We’ve got Swansea in a few days’ time and full focus is on that now.”
