Fans' View: Plenty Of Reasons For Optimism

Ahead of Leicester City's visit to Etihad Stadium on Saturday, Foxes fan Thomas Smith provides LCFC.com with a voice from the stands...
More on this story...

When Claude Puel’s Leicester City fell to a 2-0 defeat by Manchester City in early November, concern was scarce at King Power Stadium.

The Foxes had put up a more than admirable showing against the seemingly unstoppable runaway leaders of the Premier League.

A concession either side of the interval were Man City's fatal blows, as Puel’s side fell marginally short of the visitors' ever-rising high mark.

However, the unwanted trait of defeat and infamous ‘L’ on the form table would not be paired with the Foxes again until mid-December as their upward curve hit top speed.

Fast forward to early February and, with spring around the corner, Leicester have climbed the table further.

After occasionally stumbling during the festive period, they have sprung into new-life in 2018.

Confident home victories over Huddersfield Town and Watford, complimented by a resilient shutout at Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, leave us nestled in the top half.

The one setback came away to Everton and was followed just days later by a further frustrating encounter, this time against Swansea City.

A Good Time To Play Man City?

The Thursday Night Live panel discuss the challenges Leicester City will face at Etihad Stadium this weekend.

Having to settle for just a point, Leicester were left rueing an uncharacteristic inability to dispose of a visitor to LE2 last Saturday.

Yet, despite recent shortcomings, momentum and confidence are both abundant within the ranks.

A robust and rewarding month of January football was mirrored in the Club’s successful recruitment off the field.

The arrival of Fousseni Diabaté, who scored twice on debut in the Emirates FA Cup at Peterborough, is testament to the Club’s powers of talent procurement.

Many will point to Man City's strengths, but such thoughts were filling column inches before that game in February 2016, so could lightening strike twice?

Whilst the youngster continues to embed his way into his new surroundings, the depth and in-form nature of the squad at Puel's fingertips is enviable.

Upcoming selection headaches present the healthiest of managerial problems.

Nonetheless, the feel-good factor at Belvoir Drive is something that Saturday’s opponents know only too well.

Perched 13-points clear at the table’s summit, Manchester City have only tasted a league defeat once this season and will also be content with their January dealings.

Few will have missed how they bolstered their backline by acquiring Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao.

Pep Guardiola is steaming towards a domestic title in a third different country, but Leicester pushed his charges within a whisker at Etihad Stadium last season.

Who can forget, too, when the Foxes sealed a memorable 3-1 victory in Manchester in pursuit of the title?
