On Saturday, Maguire and compatriot Jamie Vardy could come up against Leicester City team-mates Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi Iheanacho and Ahmed Musa as Nigeria visit Wembley (5:15pm kick-off).

The following Thursday, meanwhile, Costa Rica are England’s opponents at Elland Road (8pm kick-off) before Gareth Southgate’s men fly out to Russia ahead of their Group G campaign.

“You've seen it is a real young squad, not many have got much experience, but I've read in the press that maybe bad experience isn't a good thing to have,” Maguire told the media this week.

Maguire Eyes World Cup Success

After the announcement of Gareth Southgate's England squad, Harry Maguire looks ahead to the World Cup in Russia this summer...

“There is no fear in the squad - a young team, not many of them have played in big tournaments, but we'll go there and take it on.”

On Southgate - the manager who handed him an England debut in 2017 - Maguire says that he hopes he can repay his faith at the World Cup next month.

He added: “He has been brilliant. As you seen at the start of the season, I played a few games in the Premier League and he showed great faith in me in putting me in the squad.

“I managed to come in and stay in the squad, so the trust gives me confidence to go out and play, keep doing what I am doing.

We've got a lot of ability in the squad and we do have the confidence to go there and take the tournament on.

“Obviously to be selected to go to Russia shows another great amount of faith, so I hope to repay him.

“If you're not selected for England, you still support them as a team, as a fan. You do get frustrated, you do watch the games.

“It's hard to watch it as a fan but you know - and I am now in the position - it's tough for the players.

“Every team is a good team, every country has got different attributes and we know it's tough, but we've got a lot of ability in the squad and we do have the confidence to go there and take the tournament on.”
