'Brilliant' King Power Stadium Atmosphere Excites Ward

The 25-year-old goalkeeper visited Filbert Way with Liverpool last September - a 2-0 Carabao Cup victory for the Foxes - on a night which the Wales international admits left a big impression on him.

Upon signing a four-year deal with the Club on Friday, Ward exclusively told LCFC TV: “I’m over the moon to be here and really looking forward to the next chapter.

“I’m looking forward to getting in the mix with [Kasper Schmeichel and Eldin Jakupović]. I’m sure they’ll greet me with open arms.

“Goalkeepers are normally a tight-knit unit so I’m looking forward to picking their brains and seeing what I can pick up from them.”

Last September, Ward left the East Midlands impressed by the Blue Army's magnificent home support, an indelible part of the Club’s identity which is renowned across the globe.

“I just remember [Shinji] Okazaki killing my season to be honest,” he laughed. “It was a brilliant atmosphere, I was really taken aback.

“It was the first time I’ve been down there on the pitch so I was taken aback by the support the fans were giving the boys on the pitch.

“I’m looking forward to sampling it some more. Especially with the success of recent seasons, the Club's recruitment seems to be going well.

“I’m looking forward to getting in with the boys, seeing what they’re about and hopefully they will see what I’m about as well.”

Ward, who made 46 appearances on loan at Huddersfield Town during their 2016/17 promotion campaign, also provided an insight into his own playing style.

“I think you’ve got to have a bit of personality and command the box,” he explained.  

“Nowadays, you’ve got to be good with your feet and, if you’re not a decent shot-stopper, you shouldn’t be playing as a goalkeeper at a high level.

“I’ve come here to develop my all-round game, hopefully bring some more of the success which the Club has had in recent years and hopefully get some more in the future.

“I do like to play from the back when it’s right but in terms of commanding the box I think it’s key for a goalkeeper - and in the modern day you’ve got to be able to play with your feet.” 

The Wrexham-born ‘keeper is already familiar with one prominent member of the current Foxes squad, having played alongside Andy King for the Welsh national side.

“It always helps when you know someone at a new club,” Ward added. “Kingy is a great lad, he’s been here a long time and tasted success with the Club, which I ultimately want to do.

“He spoke to me briefly yesterday. He was full of praise for the Club and the boys so I’m looking forward to getting started.

“From my point of view coming into a changing room where there’s boys at a similar age I’m sure it’ll help me settle in rather quickly.”
