Thousands of potential students collected their A-level results on Thursday and Leicester City stars took time to speak to some of the young people who had attained a place at De Montfort University (DMU) and officially welcome them to the city of Leicester.

With the Clearing operation in full swing, Ndidi, Ricardo and Ndukwu manned the phone lines to surprise the new students.

Ricardo spoke to Clinton, who is taking up a place at DMU’s business school, and couldn’t quite believe he was speaking to the Portuguese international as they casually discussed the best bits of the city.

City Stars Help Out On Clearing Day At DMU

Wilfred Ndidi, Ricardo and Layton Ndukwu manned the phones at De Montfort University on Clearing day this Thursday.

Wilfred meanwhile, who has been in Leicester since arriving from Belgium in January 2017, was happy to pass on a few pointers to the delighted new students about his favourite parts of life in the city centre, as well as a few chats about his experience at this summer’s FIFA World Cup.

De Montfort has worked in partnership with Leicester City for the past six seasons as the Club’s Official Higher Education Partner.

The partnership sees a number of students have access to the Club’s training facilities and to tickets for selected Premier League matches.

Speaking to LCFC TV, Ricardo said: “It was very exciting to be here and to talk with Leicester City fans. The students asked me about the city and the stadium and I told them all of the great things about Leicester. It is important that Leicester City has a role in the community, we all know that school and university is very important and I think the partnership is a good thing for the Club and for the University.”

Ndidi echoed his teammates comments and said: “It was great to surprise the students and welcome them to the city. I have offered them tickets to a Leicester City game so I look forward to welcoming them to King Power Stadium at some point this season.”

De Montfort University’s Vice Chancellor Professor Dominic Shellard said: “It’s a magnificent partnership and it’s a sign of what a tremendous community Club Leicester City is. We’ve got 90 phone lines, ringing all the time, from 6am in the morning and this is just such a thrill for our staff and our students to see their heroes come down.”

The university, which was awarded the highest Gold standard in the Government’s Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), will offer academic ‘sampler’ courses to City personnel, plus the option of intensive English Language sessions for the Club’s overseas players.
