The England international helped the Foxes to a 2-0 win at St James’ Park, netting a fine header in the second period in front of the end housing over 3,000 members of the Blue Army.

Thrilled to return to Leicester with three points in the bag after a tricky away fixture, Maguire noted a significant improvement to City’s defence.

Maguire told LCFC TV: “A clean sheet, a win, a comfortable win 2-0 away from home – it's very pleasing and the lads are really pleased in there.

“Obviously, the last away game was [against] Bournemouth and we were far too open there, defensively we weren’t at it.

Goals: Newcastle United 0 Leicester City 2

A Jamie Vardy penalty and a Harry Maguire header secured a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United at St James' Park.

“Against Huddersfield, we were really comfortable in the game and we shouldn't really have conceded the goal there.

“That should have been another clean sheet. It was a long throw and really sloppy from ourselves, so it was nice to get back to clean sheets.

“I don't really think they had many chances today. Especially coming away from home, it is really pleasing.”

City once again reaped the rewards of set-plays, with Jamie Vardy’s penalty coming as a result of a corner, while Maguire headed in James Maddison’s pin-point delivery to double the lead.

“It's something that we're working on this year really well,” said Maguire. “We've brought James Maddison in who is really good at set-plays and I should have maybe scored in the first half at the back post.

“I headed it down and probably made it too easy for the ‘keeper, but the deliveries have been good and it's been a long time coming for Leicester with my head especially. I'm happy to get that and hopefully more can continue now.

Maddison now has two assists and three goals this Premier League season, and Maguire knows just how valuable the No.10 is to the Leicester squad.

“You've seen since the start of the season, he's got real quality in everything he brings to the team,” said the centre-back.

“He's on great form at minute. It’s really good to play with him, he takes the ball under situations where we can get out of trouble and keep possession of the ball and like I say he's on great form and long may it continue.”
