The Club’s stars pledged over £60,000 to the LCFC Foxes Foundation at the End of Season Dinner in May, to help fund equipment urgently required by the hospital.

The money has helped pay for vital scanning devices for the CICU’s radiology department, that will make a difference to the treatment of more than 40 babies each month, as well as a much needed specialist ventilator that is crucial for very sick young children with severe breathing difficulties.

The equipment has already made a hugely beneficial impact to daily life at the infirmary.

Amongst the other equipment is a device that scans the brains of babies and young children to monitor blood flow, and a portable vascular ultrasound machine that can be vital in cutting out any delays in the start of life-saving treatment for Leicester’s most vulnerable and poorly children.

City duo Wes Morgan and Danny Simpson visited Leicester Royal Infirmary on Wednesday to officially unveil the equipment and talk to hospital staff about the impact it will have on the treatment of young people.

Morgan, City’s Club Captain, said: “Being here personally, you can see that it’s real life-impacting equipment and it’s fantastic to see what’s going to be achieved through it. The Club has a brilliant relationship with Leicester Hospitals, which is an important part of our community that we can all relate to. I hope the contribution we’ve made can have a really positive effect on the lives our hospitals save and improve every day.”

I don’t think we realised until we got here what our contribution is actually going to do. It’s good to come here and see the equipment, speak to the doctors and the nurses and actually go through what each equipment does and how it will help.

The Foxes duo met several of the young patients currently receiving care in the intensive care unit.

As well as the player donation, Chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha pledged £1M to the LCFC Foxes Foundation and its chosen charities on the night.

Over previous years, Khun Vichai has pledged a further £3M in personal donations to both Leicester Hospitals Charity and the University of Leicester to aid their efforts to treat and research life-threatening illnesses.

We are incredibly grateful for a very generous donation that has allowed us to get six different modern and sophisticated pieces of equipment. It literally helps save lives, because if you’re able to use this level of equipment to intervene early at the right time, then it saves lives.
